Throw pillows are a great way to mix patterns and textures. They add interest, color, and depth in any given space. But just tossing some pillows in a room isn’t the right approach – choosing the right pillows is the trick!
Playing with too many patterns spoil the cohesiveness of the grouping. Mix at least three patterns in a room, and vary the scale. Patterns can be categorized as geometric or organic. Geometric patterns can include stripes, shapes, plaids, lines, or curves. Organic patterns include such things as leaves, flowers, abstract images, and elements.
Choose at least 3 colors from around the room with the same intensity that go well with each
other. Distribute patterns evenly throughout the room, and you can even break the pattern with a
solid.
You must also consider the design and style of your room when choosing pillows. If your style is modern and contemporary, then having neutral colors, will compliment your esthetics. If your style is vintage, then bold colors and prints will go well with the space. Floral and tropical motifs will bring the outdoors in, and blends with any style. Don’t be afraid to experiment and go out of the box in mixing patterns and textures!
